War is like fast food in that it flourishes where objectivity is the norm. Both rely on placing great emotional distance between the winner and the loser. Neither would succeed without this separation.
How many Whoppers would you eat if you had to kill the cow yourself? Forget the inconvenience and pretend the entire process still took no longer than placing an order. Would the eyes of the animal that would be your prey slow your hunger?
Now substitute them for the eyes of a child.
